BOTOX® Cosmetic and Dysport Treatment Areas

BOTOX® and Dysport injections can be used to treat many different areas and for many purposes.  BOTOX® Cosmetic and Dysport injections can be used to treat:

  • Frown lines in the forehead
  • Crow's feet at the corners of the eyes
  • Lipstick lines around the mouth
  • Neck
  • Excessive perspiration (underarms)

BOTOX® and Dysport work best in the upper third of the face: frown lines between the eyebrows, horizontal bands of wrinkles across the forehead, and crow's feet at the corners of the eye. BOTOX® and Dysport can also be used to soften or erase lines around the mouth, to sculpt the face by raising one or both eyebrows, as well as to smooth vertical and horizontal neck lines by relaxing the platysmal (neck) muscles.

How BOTOX® Cosmetic and Dysport Injections Work

Many facial wrinkles are the result of nerve cells that have been conditioned to tell muscles to contract. Because we so often contract muscles in the forehead, around the eyes, and around the mouth, the nerves begin telling the muscles to remain contracted. BOTOX® blocks these signals from the nerves, allowing the muscles to relax and smoothing the wrinkles that they cause. Habitual muscle contractions are blocked, but after a short time the nerve extends new branches to the muscle that allow for voluntary muscle contraction, so you don't lose expressiveness in treated areas.

The key to successful BOTOX® Cosmetic and Dysport treatment is precise injection into the muscles requiring treatment, which depends on the skill of the injector. Initially, physicians were reluctant to use BOTOX® around the mouth where 'static' wrinkles predominate and where injections would be needed so close to muscles that are needed for talking, eating and kissing. However, after more than a decade of experience with BOTOX® procedures, the technique has been perfected to a higher skill level. Tiny BOTOX® injections into certain oral muscles can safely prevent the mouth from creasing the skin and forming the deep vertical lines caused by habitual over-pursing. Drs. Alster and Tanzi have extensive experience treating the lower third of the face and neck areas which require a great deal of finesse in technique.
