Pigment and Tattoo Removal Laser
The Picoway laser is a laser treatment that can be used to remove unwanted tattoos and improve the appearance of pigmented lesions, such as sun spots and brown birthmarks.
Frequently Asked Questions
How does it work?
The Picoway laser treats brown or pigmented lesions by specifically targeting melanin. This is achieved by using a wavelength of light that is absorbed only by melanin granules. The laser's beam penetrates the skin and zeros in on the melanin, resulting in heat destruction of the pigmented cells. The melanin absorbs the light wave, heats up, and destroys the pigment-producing cell or melanosome. When treating tattoos, the Picoway laser specifically targets the ink particles in the skin.
When will I see results?
It will take 1-2 months to attain the full effect from a Picoway laser treatment, depending on the area treated. A series of Picoway laser treatments is generally recommended for optimal results.
Is there a recovery period?
Treated spots will turn white immediately after treatment before fading to pink or red. During the week following treatment, treated spots may crust and appear like small scabs.
Who performs the treatment?
Dr. Tina Alster and Dr. Nina Hartman (Board-Certified Dermatologists).
